Home Decor

Now that I am over my jet lag I feel like I can get my act together on this blogging life.

The kids started back to school the day after we got home. Remind me to not plan a trip like that again. Yes! The kids are back to full in person school. Last year we had some back and forth that was really tough. But we are finally back into a somewhat normal routine. I am officially living that sahm life where I can get some cleaning, alone time,  and some TV watching done.

I can focus on some decorating projects. I have been so focused on what I should do or not do that I wasn't actually following through with my ideas. So I decided to just do them and sit with them. I can always change things up later. This last week I had one of those very moments. My friend was in town for the day and we talked about another idea I had for my office/studio. She thought it might be pointless because we are moving again. (Maybe soon, maybe not) But I really wanted to just move in and finish projects. The next day I was just needed to do something creative.

A little back story. It was the anniversary of my Dad passing away suddenly. I always never know how to feel exactly. I felt moody, numb, sad, not sad. It's always a guessing game to be honest. I needed a good distraction. Since the kids were at school and I had the house all to myself I got to work.

Originally I wanted to print out sheet music to my own songs to put them all over the wall. Then I found this little book of sheet music from old hymns in some of my dads old stuff. I decided I would use those instead because it is what I had on hand. I figured I would pick ones out but as I sat there looking through all of the titles I realized a new/better idea was born. The names of these hymns were so encouraging. "Jesus heals a broken heart", "God answers prayer", "My Redeemer", etc. I felt like I was taping up the full armor of God onto my wall. I got emotional. It turned into something that it was meant to be. I love when that happens. I am thankful to be able to notice when it does.

Home Decor: My Bedroom Tour

Being an Army wife I am pretty used to the moving around a lot.....Like a LOT!
With that you get to live in all kinds of different houses. Big, small, on base, or off base. I am constantly trying to fit and mold my style to fit the house. We've gone through a lot of different "looks". A lot of different kinds of furniture. I feel like this is the first house {even though its really cramped} has inspired me to embrace my true style.
I think it's funny how I tend to get the house finished right before we love. I guess it's always a work in progress. Best advice I can give a military wife is make it a home as soon as you move in. We have lived in a house as short as 11 months and as long as 3 years. It really is crazy how much we move.
So I thought I would give you a tour of my bedroom as it is in our base house in Massachusetts.

Funny story about our bed. Well we can laugh about it now but it wasn't so funny then. These old Cape Cod style houses are so tiny with a weird layout that really just drive me crazy. Our headboard is tall. I wouldn't think so outrageously tall but I've never lived in Massachusetts before.
They couldn't fit it up the stairs! So I thought we would never be able to use our brand new bed frame and be forced to sleep on mattresses for three years. I called around to several places. Someone even suggested taking it through one of the windows. {ummm is that a New England thing?"
Luckily...and I mean seriously blessed here. My awesome friend Mike told us it was an easy fix and he could help the hubby take it a part and put it back together again. {That's easy?} It ended up working and we paid him in pizza and called it a day.

Now how to get it back out of here???

I knew we were moving soon so I didn't want to set up a nursery yet. So since there is literally NO SPACE in my room I made Caleb a little baby nook out of my closet. I wanted to go all out and decorate it but he came too early. So this had to do and it's worked out great.

Thanks for stopping by....

Things I'm loving

Things I'm loving this week
Definitely getting back into the thrifting game. It's been so long! There's something about the lack of snow and warmer weather that gets me back into my projects. My favorite place to go is the local Salvation Army. I get such good deals there. I always find some fun, unique pieces that I can revamp.
You know I go too much when the employees have made up theories to explain my long absence.

{1} I'm a hit-woman and got caught and now I am in prison.

{2} Or I have ties to the mob and now am swimming with the fishies at the bottom of the ocean.

They have quite the imagination. HA!

I found this awesome candelabra that I plan on painting. Not sure on a color yet. But I love the potential. It was only $6

Found these awesome random pieces. Two very heavy candlesticks that remind me of the game CLUE. You know Professor Plum did it in the library with the candlestick. And this awesome red vase. $5 each
I guess as a welcome back present. They gave me a bunch of old cameras for my office
and this awesome coffee table for FREE!
Don't mind the dust. I'm on it!

{Music Monday}.... dreams do come true

I wanted to take a moment to introduce you properly to a new addition to our family.
After months and months {well maybe just like 3 months} of trying to make this dream a reality. The day finally arrived!
My wonderfully gorgeous vintage upright piano is finally inside the house instead of in the garage! For a little back-story you can check out previous posts here and here. It did not take long before Riley attacked it! She's been creating her masterpieces on it almost everyday! She's in love with it! Evan has even gotten in it. I showed him a few keys that I use when I mess around and that's all he will play! {well that and chopsticks} He even said that he can learn to play before I do! Everything is a competition with that boy! He makes me laugh! Maybe I will take him up on it just to get him to learn an actual instrument. I am a sucker for musicians lol. The space isn't finished being decorated. I'm going to make it look all kinds of pretty! Here are a few photos of it so you can see how humongous this girl is!

There was a few scuffs from the move and I still need to figure out the best way to get the letters off the keys and make them all sparkly clean :)
